OPSTAND
La serva padrona / L'artigiano gentiluomo
staging and set for Pergolesi’s and Hasse’s opera intermezzi – touring opera production by OPERAWERF, November 2017
ABOUT
Serpina and Larinda (Liza Dedapper) are two women who know how to take action: although they are poor and belong to the lowest social class, they do not resign themselves to their fate. With a lot of youthful inventiveness, they manage to easily wind rich gentlemen like Uberto and Vanesio (Erwin Muller) around their fingers. In doing so, they undermine existing power relations, rebel against the capitalist patriarchy and turn the world upside down. A dress-up act? A staged suicide attempt? A screen and dance duel? Serpina and Larinda fear nothing.
Pergolesi’s La serva padrona (The bossy Maid) and Hasse’s L’artigiano gentiluomo (The Craftsman as Nobleman, inspired by Molière’s Le bourgeois gentilhomme) are two baroque opera intermezzi performed by young singers and instrumentalists, directed by Mien Bogaert. These musical comedies, performed with period instruments, are sung in Italian and surtitled in Dutch.
